Describe a recent sustainability action or initiative that your company has undertaken
that you are most proud of.

For Canterbury, sustainability is not a single initiative. It is an ongoing approach to sourcing and
packaging that considers the communities behind the commodity, as well as the businesses and
consumers they ultimately serve.

One example is Canterbury’s long-standing commitment to offering certified products. The
company has sourced Fairtrade-certified coffee since 2001, building more than two decades of
experience working within certified supply chains. Today, Canterbury sells Fairtrade-certified
products across a range of brands, including Spirit Bear Coffee Company, Canterbury Roastery,
OneCoffee, Thai Mountain Coffee and Four O’Clock tea.

“We’re seeing a growing demand for products that support ethical practices and fair wages,
which contribute to a more equitable global coffee and tea industry,” says Aron Bjornson, Vice
President of Marketing and Foodservice National Accounts at Canterbury Coffee. “Our role is to
help businesses navigate those choices and find products that align with their customers, their
programs and their values.”

Canterbury’s work also extends into packaging, where the company offers BPI-certified
solutions for retail and private-label customers. For operators, this provides an easy way to
incorporate responsible packaging and sourcing into existing beverage programs, without
compromising quality or the preferences of their customers.

How does this initiative support your long-term business goals?
“Canterbury’s long-term goal is to be a trusted partner for businesses,” says Bjornson. “Our role
is to understand where the industry is going and give our customers the products, expertise and
support they need to move with it.”

As consumer expectations, sourcing challenges and sustainability priorities continue to evolve,
Canterbury is building expertise in these areas to help their customers navigate change. By understanding the needs of each business, Canterbury can provide practical solutions that
support informed decisions and growth.

Did any partnerships or collaborations help you move this work forward?
Collaboration has been an important part of Canterbury’s approach to sustainability. The
company works with certification organizations, suppliers and coffee-growing communities to
better understand the challenges and opportunities across the supply chain.

Canterbury has also welcomed the Fairtrade team to its roastery, giving employees and
partners an opportunity to learn more about the certification and Fairtrade’s work with producers
and communities.

Beyond formal partnerships, Canterbury recognizes that a resilient coffee industry depends on
strong relationships throughout the supply chain. Maintaining these connections helps the
company stay informed about the realities facing producers and adapt to changing conditions
across the industry.

“Our responsibility is not only to look at what is happening today, but to think about what is
needed to support a strong industry for the future,” says Bjornson. “That means continuing to
learn, working with the right partners and helping our customers make informed choices.”
